- Easter Hat Parade
Term 1 Celebrations and Thanks
As we finish the last week of a busy, and long, Term 1, it’s good to look back and celebrate achievements.
- We’ve had a brilliant K – 6 Easter Hat Parade
- We’ve had great success at many sporting events – a number of students have been selected for a range of representative sports. A special mention to Rose McCulloch for her selection in multiple sports.
- Our kindies have settled in to big school magnificently
- We welcomed many new families to the Kincumber community and successfully navigated the changes to classes.
ANZAC Day at KPS and MacMasters Beach SLSC
Last Monday afternoon, all students attended our school celebration of ANZAC Day. The assembly was well run by our school captains and leaders who conducted a very respectful assembly. Thank you to Mrs Bissett who coordinated the proceedings.
We were so very proud of our kindies’ excellent behaviour at their first very solemn occasion at school. They showed exemplary listening skills and great attention throughout the book reading, song and short video clips. Of great note, was their ability to maintain a minute’s silence – no mean feat for the very young! Well done everyone.
I would encourage our students’ attendance at the MacMasters Beach SLSC ANZAC Sunset Service at 5pm on ANZAC Day. Students are also encouraged to wear school uniform to represent our school if attending.

Staffing Changes for Term 2
I advised in the last newsletter that Mrs McNally was successful in gaining a position as relieving Assistant Principal at Empire Bay PS for the remainder of 2025. I am delighted she was given this opportunity as she did an amazing job relieving as AP here and has been instrumental in several initiatives here, including mathematics and gifted education. We will miss her lots!
I am, however, pleased to advise that Mrs Griffiths will take over 1V from Term 2. Mrs Griffiths is well known to all as a highly-skilled teacher with expertise in the area of high potential and gifted education also.
This is a variation to the advice in the last newsletter as Mrs Griffiths was going to take Ms Stafford’s RFF position in Term 2 while she was on extended leave.
With a passion for the environment, I am pleased to advise that Miss McPhee has offered to take on the role of sustainability champion and Chief Eco Warrior and replace Ms Stafford in Term 2.
Mrs Judd returns to the role of teacher/librarian from Term 2 and I’m sure she will be delighted with number of family groups and individual students who use the library on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to read together.
Mrs Despina Purcell will relieve as the K – 2 Assistant Principal for the first five weeks of Term 2 and Mrs Bissett will be the 3 – 6 Assistant Principal for that time while we cover staff absences.
Easter Hat Parade
This is the second year of our K – 6 Easter Hat Parade and it was great to see the creativity displayed by so many students in their designs.
Our thanks to the P & C for conducting another highly successful and well-supported Easter Raffle – the generosity of our families is second to none.
Hope you had a great term at our great school! Enjoy the autumn break and we will see you back for another term of fun and learning on Wednesday 30 April.

3A Camp Report
Recently 3A and Stage 3 attended Milson Island for Camp. It was a great experience for students and teachers as we all learned to challenge ourselves and step out of our comfort zones. Please read Indi Foy’s recount and description of Stage 3’s time at camp.
Milson Island Camp
On the morning of 26 March, 2025, I woke up happy and excited because at 8:00 AM that morning, almost all of Stage Three, including me, were leaving on a bus to Milson Island. We were going to Milson Island for a 3-day, 2-night camp with lots of fun activities planned. To get to Milson Island, we had to take a 45–50-minute bus ride and a ferry ride for 10-15 minutes. Although the trip sounded like lots of fun, I was still a bit nervous.
As we arrived at Milson Island, we loaded all our luggage onto a truck that took it up a hill while we had a bit of a tour around some of the island. We had to walk up the hill to get to the camp and the assembly area where we had a little information session about where everything is, rules, and routines for the island. Not long after, we had a delicious lunch and got sorted into our cabins. Luckily, I was with some of my friends, and although I was also with some people I didn't know, I got to know them and had fun!
At 1:00pm, our group leader took us to our first 2 activities, which were archery tag and the obstacle course. We did archery tag first. We got our bows and arrows and practiced, then we played the game, and it was lots of fun! When we finished, we got some fruit and headed to the obstacle course. The obstacle course was lots of fun! There were lots of different obstacles like monkey bars, 4-foot walls, window jumps, and even a tyre squeeze! Unfortunately, I got stuck in between 2 rows of tyres and had to army crawl my way out of there! Even though I got stuck, it was still a fun activity.
Every day from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, we had free time. Free time was lots of fun because we got to do whatever we wanted with whoever we wanted. At 5:30pm, we had dinner, and after that, we took part in night activities. The night activities were fun as well because we played lots of little games. When we finished, we went back to our cabins. At 9:00pm, we went to bed.
The next morning, we went kayaking! In my opinion, it wasn't the best activity because Monique and I went together and we got stranded in the middle of the river, but we did see 2 jellyfish, which was cool! When I got out, I was soaked in water and my shoes were very wet.
Next up, we had BMX biking and raft building! For BMX biking, we did 2 different trails, and the 2nd trail ended in 2 big hills, and you had to choose 1 to go up. I won stack of the day for doing a front flip off my bike! After BMX biking, we did raft building, and we had to build a raft that would float someone across the pool. Although I was with people I didn't know, we made a great raft, and I made it across in first place!
The last activity we did that day were the night activities, and for the night activities, we did a Mini Olympics Tournament in teams of 8-10. The next morning, we packed up and had our last activity, which was the Amazing Race! The Amazing Race was lots of fun. We did lots of fun activities that included lighting campfires, archery, basketball, and fishing, all while carrying a baby (a balloon filled with water) which my team named Vogue. The aim of the race was to get the most points from the activities, and my team won!
Soon enough, we were on our way back to Kincumber, and I was a bit sad to be leaving, but I was also tired. I even had a nap on the bus!
I did enjoy camp, but I was happy to be back at home.
Milson Island Jellyfish
The artworks that follow were completed by 3A after returning to school and were inspired by the many jellyfish we encountered while completing the kayaking adventure around the island.

Term 1 Sporting Highlights at KPS
Term 1 has showcased the remarkable efforts and achievements of our students at KPS across a variety of sports.
Our swimming carnival once again stood out as a popular event on our calendar, featuring impressive performances and many individual goals reached by our students.
We have begun trialling and forming several school teams to participate in the PSSA knockout competition, with our boys’ cricket team successfully completing their first-round match. Several outstanding individual performances were noted at the Southern Central Coast Zone and Sydney North Trials. Notably, two of our students advanced through these trials:
- Archer Laffan – Progressed to the Sydney North Tennis Trials
- Madden Woodard-Knight – Progressed to the Sydney North Hockey Trials
A significant achievement this term came from Rose McCulloch. During the recent Stage 3 Camp at Milson Island, Rose managed to travel to and from the island while participating in various camp activities over two days. She attended trials for both the Sydney North Girls Rugby 7s and the Sydney North Rugby League teams, successfully securing a spot in both teams to compete at the State Championships. Notably, she was the only female member selected as a part of the Sydney North Rugby League team. We wish her the best of luck and look forward to her and her team's continued success.
Looking ahead, we have many upcoming trials and school teams competing in Term 2. We wish all our students and teams the best as they strive toward their personal and team goals.
We are excited to announce that KPS has entered teams into the PSSA knockout competition for field hockey. Mrs Woodard-Knight has taken on the management duties for this initiative, and we are thrilled with the interest shown at our recent boys’ team trial. We anticipate team selections in Term 2 and look forward to our first-round match against Avoca Beach PS.
By the time this newsletter is published, the Cross Country Carnival will have taken place. This large event requires the cooperation and organisation of our entire school community. We extend our gratitude to all students, staff, parents, and Kincumber High School student volunteers who contribute to making this day a success. It is a fun event where many students aim to achieve personal goals while tackling a challenging run. Thank you to all parents for attending and providing support and community spirit for our students.

New Ethics Day and Time
Could you be an ethics teacher for Kincumber Public School? We are seeking volunteers so that we can provide ethics classes for all the families who have requested it for their children.
Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and development of critical thinking skills and must be available at 11.30am Fridays each week.
In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure.
Children discuss topic such as:
- imagining how others feel
- how do we treat living things?
- what is laziness?
- how do we disagree in a respectful way?
- fairness
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au or contact Julia Kosheleva on 0402 414 041 or Julia.kosheleva@primaryethics.com.au

Unclaimed items will be donated to charity if not claimed at the end of each term.

Easter Fun at KPS from your P&C
What a fantastic end to Term 1 - we had with the annual Easter Hat Parade and Easter Raffle!
The Easter Hat Parade was full of colour, creativity, and community spirit. It was such a joy to see all the students proudly showing off their handmade creations – a huge well done to every child who participated! Your hats were brilliant and brought so many smiles to the crowd.
Congratulations to all the winners in the Annual KPS Easter Raffle!
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated Easter goodies and purchased raffle tickets. Your generosity and support helped make the raffle an amazing success, and together we raised $2,085 for our school.
These funds will go towards a project the P&C is currently starting in relation to the massive task of introducing air conditioning to our school. Stay tuned for updates – we are in the initial stages of planning and are working closely with our amazing school team on what will be an absolutely monumental job.
Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our KPS community.

Triple P Parenting Programs
Ask any parent how they juggle raising kids while taking time for themselves, and they'll probably tell you it's tough. Many parents have little time, resources or energy to focus on their own needs. This can lead to "parental burnout", a growing syndrome that stems from chronic parenting stress. Symptoms may include emotional disconnection with your children, exhaustion, shame, and feeling overwhelmed or fed up with your role as a parent.
Check out these parenting tips from Triple P to help you put your own needs back in the picture.
Reframe self-care
Self-care is not selfish – it's one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your loved ones. Taking care of yourself can help you feel more confident in your parenting skills and better equipped to handle stressful situations. This, in turn, benefits children and helps create positive family environments.
Start small
Self-care is often portrayed as a luxury or indulgence, but it can be more about the small, everyday things you can do that add up. Whether it's just taking some deep breaths, going for a walk, or catching up with a friend, even small amounts of time for your wellbeing can gradually add up to make a big difference.
Be kind to yourself
We all make mistakes and face difficulties, and that's okay. Being kind to yourself is important, especially when things don't go as planned. Practising self-compassion can make a huge difference in how you feel every day. Plus, it sets a great example for children on how to show themselves love and kindness, too.
Get support
Various factors can cause parental burnout, and it's a sign of strength to ask for help. Consider talking to a loved one or reaching out to helpful resources like Lifeline, Parentline, or your GP. To help make parenting less stressful and more rewarding, try a free online course from the Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

Little Friends Scholarship Program - Applications are Now Open
Imagine you’re a child who has suddenly lost your home and all your possessions because you’ve had to flee domestic or family violence. Imagine how alone this child feels, the trauma they’ve experienced. Like every other child, they not only want to feel safe, secure and loved, they also want to fit in, not stand out from their peers. Maybe they've even had to change schools and make new friends.
Made to feel different because they no longer have the right uniform or school shoes, or their parent can’t afford to pay for a laptop, school excursions, or the long-awaited school camp. Maybe they’ve had to drop out of the music lessons or sporting competitions they once attended and loved to be part of.
This is where the Little Friends Scholarship Program comes in to support our youngest Australians who have already been through so much.
An initiative of Friends with Dignity, these valuable scholarships help fund education and extracurricular activities for five to 18-year-olds, putting children affected by domestic or family violence on an equal footing with their peers.
Scholarships are up to a maximum value of $500 per child.
If you have families within your school community or support community who are financially disadvantaged due to domestic or family violence, we encourage you to inform these families about the scholarship program and support them in submitting their application for funding to assist them with the cost of educational and extra-curricular expenses for their child/ren.
More information about the Little Friends Scholarship Program and access to the online application can be found below.

Quick Reference Guides for Parents
What is the School Student Broadband Initiative?

One lesson that schools and the government learned from the "learning from home" periods in 2020 and 2021 was that not all students had access to effective and reliable internet services. As a result, many students were strongly disadvantaged, impacting the continuity of their education.
Did you know that the Australian Government in conjunction with the NBN, offer the School Student Broadband Initiative to address this gap? If your school has any students that live in an area that can access the NBN, but do not currently have an NBN service at home, please let them know about the initiative.
Eligible families will be provided with home internet service at no cost until 31 December 2025, through a participating internet provider over the National Broadband Network. The link above provides all the necessary information for eligible families to take advantage of this initiative.

Attendance Matters
Research highlights a clear correlation between student attendance and positive student outcomes. This research tells us that students with an attendance rate above 90% have greater academic and social success. Parents can view term attendance rates for their child/ren in the Sentral Attendance portal.
ALL student absences must be explained within 7 days, this is a Department of Education policy. Parents can lodge student absences through the Sentral Parent Portal at any time within the 7 days.

Online Enrolment System
The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for parents to submit an Application to Enrol in a NSW Government School online at the time that best suits you. The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices including iOS and Android.
The online application process is currently available to:
- Local and out of area enrolments
- Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
- Children who live in NSW
We offer our support and encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. If however, you do not feel comfortable completing an application online, a paper copy will be available for collection from the front office or can be downloaded from the Department’s going to a public school site.
Parent Portal
Kincumber Public School uses the Sentral ‘Parent Portal’ for a variety of communication purposes.
We broadcast messages to the whole school, stages, individual classes and students. This might include reminders for upcoming events, excursions and may also include notes.
Parents are able to use 2-way messaging for important but not urgent communication regarding student wellbeing and learning. This should not be considered an instant messaging service as teachers DO NOT receive notifications and will only get them after logging into our system at a convenient time during the school day. We understand that many families have flexible working hours and will need to send or respond to portal information at a time convenient to them. We also expect that families will understand that teachers will manage communications to you in the same way.
You can download the Sentral Parent Portal to your smart phone and receive notifications to help you stay up to date with what’s happening in school.

Road Safety – a Shared Responsibility
When thinking about road safety, what is shared responsibility?
It’s a way for us, individually, to ensure the safety of everyone in our community.
Central Coast Council regularly reviews the environment around our many schools, improving areas such as the setup of parking restrictions or the upgrading of crossings. Supporting schools to educate their school community about road safety outside schools is also a role of our Council.
Everyone in the school community - parents, grandparents, carers, teachers, students, bus drivers, crossing supervisors and motorists passing through the area – all have a responsibility for the road safety of our children.
Please consider the following to help keep the members of your school community safe
- If you drop off or pick up children to or from school, please follow the Road Rules
- There are designated areas that allow for parking but there are also areas that do not allow parking
- Pedestrian and / or School Crossings provide the safest options for crossing the road
- Speed limits are set at 40 km/hour to help keep people around school areas - especially children - safe.
Road safety around schools is about shared responsibility. Addressing road safety issues are not always about needing more parking spaces.
Children are great imitators so please set a good example and model safe behaviour.
The Safe System Approach to Road Safety has been adopted in NSW. The following is taken from the NSW Towards Zero Road Safety Campaign:
People are at the heart of the safe system approach to road safety.
Road safety is a shared responsibility – everyone needs to make safe decisions on and around the road to prioritise safety.
All road users owe it to themselves and to everyone else on the road to follow the road rules and drive to the conditions. Crashes can be prevented, and lives can be saved, by making safe choices.
